Process Approach The Key Factor To Successfully Implement TQM
The general definition of process is the series of activities carried out to achieve the desired results. However, in total quality management, the process approach has a more significant and broader role to play. In the process approach, the activities are the interrelated set of actions that helps you reach the set objectives more efficiently and effectively.
The organization always works towards a common goal by developing & implementing the fundamental strategies. Using the correct process approach, an organization identifies the task, allocates the resources, and analyses the process at every step to deliver the desired results. Here are the key elements of the process approach to successfully implement TQM in your organization.
1. Define the process
The process approach in TQM requires you to define the process to achieve the desired results exactly. You should describe even the smallest of the details and the desired results you need to succeed.
2. Identify the inputs and outputs of the process
The next important element of the process approach is identifying and quantifying the inputs and outputs. The Inputs include workforce requirements, material resources, energy, etc. In contrast, the outcomes of the process would comprise the WIP products and finished products or services.
3. Identify the potential risk and impact
This element considers how the process will impact the suppliers, stakeholders, and customers at each implementation phase. Identifying and eliminating risk is the next step.
4. Define an individual's role in the process
The individuals' role and responsibility in a process should be clearly laid out to implement TQM's process approach effectively. It will help you keep track of loopholes and the strategies that need to be improved.
5. Identify the key stakeholders of the process
The stakeholders, such as the internal and external customers, suppliers, influence an organization's processes. Hence, there is a need to determine the key stakeholders who are involved in process execution and its delivery.
6. Identify where the process interacts with multiple functional areas
An organization is a combination of various functional areas, and the process elements interact with a couple of them at some point in time. For well-informed decision making, there is a need to identify those areas for effective total quality management procedure.
7. Identify the process resources
For effective process implementation, you will have to consider various elements such as the process steps, key task, flows, control tactics, data, supply resources, employee's training, tools & techniques, and other resources. Proactively collecting these resources will allow the process to be effectively implemented and producing the desired results.
The process approach will help you drive your company towards continuous improvement quickly efficiently and effectively to help you achieve operational excellence.
