7 reasons of productivity loss not caused by the production department

The production department is perhaps the most informed about the continuously changing health and condition of their equipment but any organization does not work through just one particular department. The participation of many departments to contribute towards the production process is imperative because of the multi-faceted nature of a business. The discussion of this article is the effect of various departments, apart from the production department on the productivity. There are very specific common mistakes that lead to a loss in productivity by each department which are discussed below:
Sales Department
The sales department can make mistakes that prove costly to the company by making small errors. Mistakes in reporting the code number, quantity, specifications, delivery date and the destination of outbound products can have a severe impact on the company's relations with the customer as well as extra costs for the mistakes that were made.
Production Control Department
Communication is key while working in tandem with several other departments. When communication between the production control department and the sales department is not good enough, there can be errors that inadvertently lead to wrong development of production plans, work orders and forecasts.
Purchasing Department
Having the correct amount of raw materials is influential on the productivity. If the procurement of raw materials is not done in the correct quantity, there could either be a shortage or surplus of raw materials. Materials of the incorrect specification could also be ordered which are not required and ultimately prove to be wasteful for the company.
Shipping Department
The shipping department is supposed to ensure the safe delivery of the correct items at to the correct customer on time. It must also ship the correct quantity of items to not have a negative effect on production down the line.
Product Design Department
Product design is concerned with the development of a product by considering various aspects of its functionality and appearance. However, another important aspect of product design is the consideration of ease of manufacturing which is often not paid much heed. This ignorance leads to poor quality production with defects occurring due to difficulty faced during assembly. These mistakes in production prompt remedial action to be taken for restoring the product to the desired quality.
